Millie‘s paintings speak of her emotions and are deeply influenced by her sketch books. She mostly uses acrylic as it allows for the immediacy and drive she has towards her painting process. As this medium dries quickly, it enables Millie to continuously layer and alter the work allowing it to truly mirror her present emotions.
‘I find that once I am holding my paint brush I am suddenly in my safe and inspiring space.’ Millie has recently moved from oneiric, figurative paintings that are inspired by dreams to using the power that simple forms have in creating uncanniness and mystery in the composition of a painting. By example, adding a circle in an abstract painting creates a subtle subject matter that can be interpreted immediately and in any way. They can appear as eyes or even sunsets. Millie states, ‘I love playing with this format as it creates a meditative space which is contained, minimalistic and mysterious.’
Millie has participated in several exhibitions with other students from her university and artist friends and has also had her paintings featured in magazines, such as The Intelligent Magazine and artist talk magazine. Most notably she was profiled on Rai 2 in Italy for an episode of ‘Top Tutto Quanto Fa Tendenza’, presenting emerging artists in London.
Recently Anthony Fawcett, famous art critic and influencer in avant-garde media, wrote a positive review of Millie’s paintings, describing her as ‘the artist’s artist’ and stating his excitement towards Griffiths’ future endeavours in art.
